5 golden rules of finding your life partner

A relationship coach lays out his 5 golden rules for reviewing the prospects of long-term marital success. When it comes to making the decision about choosing a life partner, no one wants to make a mistake.Yet, with a divorce rate of close to 50 percent (in USA), it appears that many are making serious mistakes in their approach to finding Mr./Ms. Right!

If you ask most couples who are engaged why they're getting married, they'll say: "We're in love." I believe this is the #1 mistake people make when they date.Choosing a life partner should never be based on love.Though this may sound not politically correct, there's a profound truth here. Love is not the basis for getting married.

Rather, love is the result of a good marriage. When the other ingredients are right, then the love will come.Let me say it again You CANNOT build a lifetime relationship on love alone. You need a lot more. Here are 5 questions you must ask yourself if you're serious about finding & keeping a lifepartner.

QUESTION #1
Do we share a common life purpose? Why is this so important? Let me put it this way: If you're married for 20 or 30 years, that's a long time to live with someone. What do you plan to do with each other all that time? Travel, eat & jog together? You need to share something deeper & more meaningful. You need a common life purpose. Two things can happen in a marriage. You can grow together, or you can grow apart. 50 percent of the people out there are growing apart. To make a marriage work, you need to know what you want out of life - bottom line - & marry someone who wants the same thing.

QUESTION #2
Do I feel safe expressing my feelings & thoughts with this person? This question goes to the core of the quality of your relationship. Feeling safe means you can communicate openly with this person. The basis of having good communication is trust- i.e. trust that I won't get "punished" or hurt for expressing my honest thoughts & feelings. A colleague of mine defines an abusive person as someone with whom you feel afraid to express your thoughts & feelings. Be honest with yourself on this one. Make sure you feel emotionally safe with the person you plan to marry.

QUESTION #3
Is he/she a mensch? A mensch is someone who is a refined & sensitive person. How can you test? Here are some suggestions. Do they work on personal growth on a regular basis? Are they serious about improving themselves? A teacher of mine defines a good person as "someone who is always striving to be good & do the right thing."So ask about your significant other What do they do with their time? Is this person materialistic? Usually a materialistic person is not someone whose top priority is character refinement. There are essentially two types of people in the world: People who are dedicated to personal growth & people who are dedicated to seeking comfort. Someone whose goal in life is to be comfortable will put personal comfort ahead of doing the right thing. You need to know that before walking down the aisle.

QUESTION #4
How does he/she treat other people? The one most important thing that makes any relationship work is the ability to give. By giving, we mean the ability to give another person pleasure. Ask: Is this someone who enjoys giving pleasure to others or are they wrapped up in themselves & self-absorbed? To measure this, think about the following: How do they treat people whom they do not have to be nice to, such as waiters, bus boys, taxi drivers, etc. How do they treat parents & siblings? Do they have gratitude & appreciation? If they don't have gratitude for the people who have given them everything, you cannot expect that they'll have gratitude for you-who can't do nearly as much for them!Do they gossip & speak badly about others? Someone who gossips cannot be someone who loves others. You can be sure that someone who treats others poorly, will eventually treat you poorly as well.

QUESTION #5
Is there anything I'm hoping to change about this person after we're married? Too many people make the mistake of marrying someone with the intention of trying to "improve" them after they're married. As a colleague of mine puts it, "You can probably expect someone to change after marriage .. for the worse!" If you cannot fully accept this person the way they are now, then you are not ready to marry them. In conclusion, dating doesn't have to be difficult & treacherous. The key is to try leading a little more with your head & less with your heart. It pays to be as objective as possible when you are dating, to be sure to ask questions that will help you get to the key issues.

Falling in love is a great feeling, but when you wake up with a ring on your finger, you don't want to find yourself in trouble because you didn't do your homework.

THE ABCD's Diwali

American Born Confused Desi's Diwali Version

A young second generation Indian in the US was asked by his mother to explain the significance of "Diwali" to his younger brother, this is how he went about it...

" So, like this dude had, like, a big cool kingdom and people liked him. But, like, his step-mom, or something, was kind of a bitch, and she forced her husband to, like, send this cool-dude, he was Ram, to some national forest or something...

Since he was going, for like, something like more than 10 years or so.. he decided to get his wife and his bro along... you know..so that they could all chill out together. But Dude, the forest was reeeeal scary ... really man... they had monkeys and devils and like that. But this dude, Ram, kicked ass with darts and bows and arrows... so it was fine.

But then some bad gangsta boys, some jerk called Ravan, picks up his babe (Sita). And boy, was our man, and also his bro, Laxman,... all the gods were with him... So anyways, you don't mess with gods. So, Ram, and his bro get an army of monkeys..Dude, don't ask me how they trained the damn monkeys... just go along with me, ok...

So, Ram, Lax and their monkeys whip this gangsta's in his own hood. Anyways, by this time, their time's up in the forest..and anyways...it gets kinda boring, you know... no TV or malls or like that. So,they decided to hitch a ride back home... and when the people realize that our dude, his bro and the wife are back home... they thought, well, you know, at least they deserve something nice... and they didn't have any bars or clubs in those days... so they couldn't take them out for a drink, so they, like, decided to smoke and ...and since they also had some lamps, they lit the lamps also... so it was pretty cooool...you know with all those fireworks...

Really, they even had some local band play along with the fireworks... and you know, what, dude, that was the very first, no kidding.., that was the very first music-synchronized fireworks... you know, like the 4th of July stuff, but just, more cooler and stuff, you know. And, so dude, that was how, like, this festival started................

HAPPY DIWALI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A good joke

A newly wed girl was being welcomed at the husband's home in a traditional manner.

As expected she gave a speech:
My dear family,
I thank you for welcoming me in my new home and family",
she said "Firstly, With my presence I would not want to create any inconveniences - my being here does not mean that I would want to change your way of life, your routine."

"What do you mean my child?" asked the patriarch of the family

"What I mean dad is: Those who used to wash dishes must carry on washing them. Those who used to do the laundry must carry on doing it. Those who cooked shouldn't stop at my account. Those who used to clean should clean.

As for me, I'm here just to entertain your son!"

My First Golu Experience

I remember the good old days when i was a small girl , I used to visit golus nearby our houses. By the very word Golu i remember all those sweet dolls their arrangement, sundal and the songs. When they asked me to sing in the golu i remember singing some movie song, when the girls who came with me sang Alaipayuthey song(The movie was not released then , otherwise i would have known the song).

Last friday i was feeling very nostalgic when i was talking to my mom about those days. Then suddenly something struck me.I decided i am going to have a golu in my house this time. My in laws and mom were here at my house when i decided this. They were all very happy. But then they said you have to keep it every year if you do it once. I was reluctant. I called my dad who was in my home town and asked him to buy dolls and other things needed for golu.He did it immediately and sent them here to bangalore.

The d-day came and my sister in law helped me with all Nav dhaniyam , dolls and other pooja stuff. When i finished all the settings i was amazed .It turned out to be very good. This is the happiest Dusserah i ever had in my life. All my close friends who knew me well knew for sure i am not that very pious or religious. My main purpose of this golu was to invite everyone to my home. I needed a reason and ofcourse i do dress up everyday with pattu saree, flowers and jewels(hehehehe).

I was wondering why people of the older days had this. Ofcourse they must have been pious. But the real reasion would have been NETWORKING. Those days ladies networking means , "Hey Sudha, is your uncle's ,inlaw's daughter's son still single? We are looking for marriage proposal for our Latha you know?" .Nowadays also its there , but a slight variation .They talk about these things plus other happening things also. Having people everyday at my house was a great joy. I invited all my friends and my husband's friends.

Things to be followed for a Golu( as per my knowledge)

1) Have steps in Odd numbers (3,5,7,9)

2) Grow NavaDhaniyam(Green grams grow well and early, so use them most).

3)Arrange dolls with a theme. Nowadays you get dasavatharam set, Ashtalakshmi set and the so. You can use your own imagination and make a cricket ground, Apartment, Bus Stop and what not.

4)Take bath early in the morning. If you can , fast one time a day.Otherwise atleast avoid non veg.

5)Show Arathi for the dolls and gods everyday in the morning and evening.

6)Water your Navdhaniyam

7)Sing some songs praising the godess Durga/Amman if you can.Otherwise atleast play them in a recorder.

8)Keep water in a jug and keep a coconut on top of it surrounded by mango leaves. This has to be kept all 9 days, so choose a good coconut. After 9 days take this out and prepare some sweet out of it.

9)When people visit your house to see the golu , give them prashadham which you have prepared.Offer them kumkum with the thambulam.Thamboolam includes kumkum, Manjal(Haldi), Yellow rope, Beetle leaves and beetle nuts and a gift of your choice( a blouse bit, Kattori, tray etc..)

10) After 9 days put the navdhaniyam you have grown in any running water.

It was such a pleasant experience that i have already started waiting for next year's golu.

Do's and Dont's in Orlando

Recently when we were in US we 3 went to orlando. It was quite a nice trip. Would like to list the do's and don'ts out of my own experience

1)Look for a good deal in flight tickets. If you book real early it will be very cheap. You can either plan for a 4 or 5 day trip depending upon your budget. And when you are booking the flight tickets make it such that you reach orlando in the night and when you are starting from there also make it in the night, so that you get full whole days to spend there.

2)Booking a hotel - Book something nearer to the theme parks . So that commutation will cost you less if you prefer to take a cab service. If you are going for a rental car then this might not be a problem .Always carry a car seat if you have a kid, because the rent of the car seat might exceed the actual price of the car seat.Always book a hotel with kitchen in it , because food there is costly. So atleast whenever you can ,you can cook something for yourself.Read reviews in net for the hotels and then book them.

3)Book the entrance tickets to the theme parks. You have to book them well in advance because walt disney tickets are not e tickets. It will take you 10 - 15 days to receive them.

4)Once you book your travel tickets, hotel and then park tickets , start preparing for your travel.

5)http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/myVacation/customizedMaps/index?id=CustomizedMapsSampleMapsPage You can get the maps of all the disney parks from here.

6) In the maps there is explanation about each and every ride and show there. You can go through it and select the items which you want to explore based on your interest. Doing this prior to your trip will help you more because one day in one park in not enough for seeing everything there and you might end up missing something very important there. So if you do a research and select the items which you want to go for, it might be easy.

7)There is something called fast pass in Disney land. Its like booking an appointment. In disney land every ride and show has long queues. To avoid getting struck up in one place for long time you can get fast pass and return to that place at the time indicated. If you select which all rides you should see, go and take fast passes for them first, as many of the rides and shows are really crowded.

8)Photo pass is something which you can ask any Disney photographer there. They will give you a card for free and if you present the card to any Disney photographer they take pictures of you for free. You can log in to net with the address specified there and fill in your details to check the photographs. If you want to order any photographs you can do so online. That will cost you money.

9)Dont miss the Parades in Disney world. They are the speciality items there.Look for the timings before you get there and make your rides adjusting these timings.Once you get to the park ask the route where the parade goes by and well before half an hour get a seat for yourself in the route, because getting a place to stand to watch the parade itself will be difficult.

10)Dont miss any of the fire works in Disney Land. Like parades get yourself placed well before half an hour here also as getting place will be difficult.

11)Cooking - Before you leave buy some ready to eat foods , noodles and the like so that it will make your cooking easy. You can try simple recipes and long lasting food items like puliogare/Lemon Rice/Curd rice. It will be difficult to find an Indian Restaurant near by where you stay so be prepared.

12)Can cook chapathis/Idlis and freeze it.Later when you want to use thewm you can microwave them.Every hotel has a micro wave facility.

13)Dont forget to take Sun Screen ,hat, Drinking water, goggles. Because climate there is really hot. Its better to get drinking water bottles outside the parks because they are very costly there.

14)Wear proper comfortable shoes beacuse you will have to walk in miles inside the parks. Avoid wearing high heels, Chappals or the like. For kids also shoes are better.

15)Stroller for kids is available in every theme park for rent. You can take your own strollers also.

16)Dont forget to take basic medicines for head ache ,fever ,cold, and the like .Take your Health Insurance cards,Passport, Driving License for User identification.Beacuse inside the parks when you book your tickets or get in by using online tickets they ask for user identification.

17)Dont forget to carry your mobile phone and important phone numbers.

18)If you have a digital camera / Handy cam better take your Laptop with it, because you might want to take 100's of pictures there and the memory in your camera will never be enough.

19)Take extra dresses with you in case u get wet or dirty you can use them. In Sea world definitely take an extra pair because its a water park.

20)Have a nice trip to disney :)

IT parents

Around 10 days back I was travelling from Tirunelveli to Bangalore in train with my mom and my son. When i was boarding the train itself one of my chappals fell into the track, so i was in a bad mood. My son being a small kid was playing around here and there. There were only 2 others in the compartment other than us.

My son threw a toy while he was playing near one of them. The person took it and gave it to me and asked me where we are going. I replied "Bangalore". The conversation started like this. It went on for a while. i came to know that he is a IT guy who works in Bangalore. His wife is also a working lady. He has a son 2+ years old. He asked my mom " Are you going to Bangalore to take care of your grandson?".My mom happily replied "yes".

He said initially his mom in law was with them when their kid was born and she stayed with them for one year. He was saying what all she went through when she was there alone in Bangalore with the kid.I started correlating that with my mom. Tirunelveli , even though its not a village its definitely not a city like bangalore. We used to know people staying nearby, relatives visit often, no traffic jams like Bangalore, everyone speaks in Tamil, climate is hot, pollution free compared to Bangalore, as a whole a calm and peaceful place.

He said his son used to be very naughty and his mom in law couldn't take him outside also , as she is not comfortable with the place. So when they used to come back from office their house used to look like a war field and the mom in law used to be the person who lost the battle.I personally understood how difficult child care is after i had a son. And that too for old age people its really difficult. The mom in law finally said she couldn't stay there and took the kid with her to hometown as the parents couldn't take care of him. He was returning to Bangalore after seeing his son in the weekend.

My mom was upset. I know what all she started thinking. I always feel that in old age parents should not leave one another and they should live together. But nowadays people like us usually call the parents to take care of the kids. Fathers have to suffer alone.

I left my job to take care of my kid , because i know how difficult it can be for parents who work in IT field to take care of kids. I always wonder this fact in US.Because there , what ever be it , people work from 8 30 till 5 30 and spend lots of time for personal life. Kids stay in day care , and as the laws are strict there, we can be confident about the day care centers. But here.........

I am waiting for the day when IT field will spread its wings to places like tirunelveli so that everyone can live happily. I always have the nostalgic feeling to stay in my hometown and i think everyone has it too.

Tamil Movie Facts

Before anyone reading this article I must confess that I am quite a regular movie watcher and i do love movies. When you are reading this article if any movie names comes to your mind it should be only a pure coincidence.
Here goes the 7 types of stories in movies.

1)Love/Romance Movies
=================
These are the worst type of movies and I really hate to watch any kind of movies in this category. The hero whatever be his age falls in love with the heroine at the first sight and then they both try to get their love to a success, some of them where school going people if i remember correctly. I always feel that one should not put the title card once the hero and heroine marry. They should show how they struggle in life after getting married in school life.Second sub category in this is heroine/hero is a rowdy in a college and the hero/heroine tries to put up a fight with them which eventually ends up in love. Some years ago there was a trend where in they started loving without seeing each other through telephones, letters, mails and other modern communication equipments which nowadays after these films are mainly used for this purpose. Another season is heroes never tell their love but they roam behind heroines unable to say their love.Another category which was recently introduced was hero and heroine tries all drama to make their family accept their love. And in all this category a comedian, what ever his real age be, will be a college student will be helping the hero who will be of his son's age.

2)Revenge Stories
==============
Villain/Villains/Villi kills anyone of hero's family member or abuse his family members. The hero then takes a oath and finally wins the battle.

3)Hero Oriented Movies
==================
The prime minister/Chief Minister/any minister is plotted to be killed or terrorists' plans any attack on India or Police tries to tackle with a smuggler and the so.Our one and only hero , even if he is a constable of Tamil Nadu police he will be conducting meetings with all the high commanders of Indian defence force and will be speaking in Tamil in the meetings. The terrorist, even if he is from Pakistan will definitely speak tamil with an awkward accent.Even if 1000 people are to be going with him to capture the terrorists , finally our hero is the only one who will capture him speaking 10 page dialogues. Actually its because of the dialogues the villains fall.
Another category which has recently come up in this is hero is a simple guy who lives in a very normal locality and every rowdy in that locality fears him because he starts saying punch dialogues and shouts at high pitch "aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii".

4)Supernatural powers Movies
=======================
We had quite a good many number of entertaining Mariyatha , kaliatha and the so movies in tamil wherein all the athaas try to show up their presence via computer graphics and do all the gimmicks.

5)Action Movies
============
This has a close relation with hero oriented movies. The only difference being hero is always serious in this kind of movies. Some of the famous tricks include trying to kick the villains with every part of their body by climbing in a wall , twisting their bodies by 20 times , throwing away the villain by 200 feet , breaking villains bones by a simple knock ,winning over 100+ people, catching bullets in hands and making them a bomb, catching the bomb and throw it back on the villain, flying in cars, racing in motor bikes, driving an aeroplane and god knows what. In this kind even if the hero falls from a 100 storey building , he will walk away without even a scratch in his body. One another category you will see blood through out the movie to make sure that its an action movie. The characters usually speak chennai accent.

6)Village type Movies
===================
The hero or his Dad will be a local don and every one in that area will put their dothies down and tie the towels in their halves if they happen to hear their name .There was even an extent of putting the sand like vibhoothi on which the hero walked. The hero used to give judgement always under a huge banyan tree with 10 other people sitting with him always agreeing to what he says. Some major judgements will be given here.If the hero gives a judgement wrong he even goes to the extent of dying like the Pandyan king in Silapathikaram. If you need a dictionary for every bad word in tamil go watch these movies. The characters of these movies usually speak in coimbatore or Tiruneveli acccent.

7)Gangster Movies
==============
Hero does everything against the law and takes law in his own hands ,only to make sure that the poor people get their living rights and they get all necessities. They are glorified through out the movie even if they kill dozens of people , smuggle goods and do all things against the law. Finally they become PM/CM/atleast an MLA.

Other than these there are a very movies which comes in Kids category, real life character depiction, comedy and the so.

Tips when watching Tamil movies
=========================
1)When you see all tamil deities coming in graphics/there is atleast one animal to help the hero/heroine / a snake doing a disco dance/ Snake doing typewriting/ goat reading the number plates/ cow going to police station to file a complaint/ Elephant playing cricket you can be sure that its a film by director Rama Narayanan

2)If you see close up shots of eyes becoming red you can close your eyes and say they are Vijayakanths'.

3)In all terrorist movies there will be dfefintely a song where in the hero and friends are tied up by villains and the heroine dances glamourously pouring wine or any anaesthetic to make the villain group unconscious and untie the hero group.

4)If you see bright colors in movies and your eyes are strained and next day you have to go to an eye doctor the actor in the film is undoubtedly Ramarajan

5)If you see a guy who jumps with a heroine who is 1/20th of his age and 1/30th of his size , also trying to torture the heroine by bending her, pushing her, lifting her up watch more carefully. It might be Vijayakanth doing a duet dance.

6)If you see someone pointing hands at you and talking something rubbish then it might be Vijay or Ajith.

7)If you see a college student who is of Professors age roaming behind heroine but unable to express his love , it is Murali

8)If you see someone talking nonsense rhymingly without even me saying you know who it is..T.R...

9)If you see some one doing exercise with the heroine for a duet song then its Bagiyaraj.

Keep Smiling :)

TWO WOMEN TALKING:
===================

Woman 1: Oh! You got a haircut! That's so cute!

Woman 2: Do you think so? I wasn't sure when she gave me the mirror. I mean, you don't think it's too fluffy looking?

Woman 1: No, it's perfect. I'd love to get my hair cut like that, but Ithink my face is too wide. I'm pretty much stuck with this stuff Ithink.

Woman 2: Are you serious? I think your face is adorable. And you could easily get one of those layer cuts - that would look so cute I think. Iwas actually going to do that except that I was afraid it would accentmy long neck.

Woman 1: Oh - that's funny! I would love to have your neck! Anything to take attention away from these football player shoulders of mine

Woman 2: Are you kidding? I know girls that would love to have yourshoulders. Everything drapes so well on you. I mean, look at my arms, see how short they are? If I had your shoulders I could get clothes to fit me so much easier.

Excerpts from HER & HIS diaries
HER DIARY
I asked him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing."I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry.
On the way home, I told him that I loved him, but he simply smiled and kept driving.
I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love you too."
When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him, as ifhe wanted nothing to do with me anymore.
He just sat there and watched TV; he seemed distant and absent.
Finally, I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed.
I decided that I could not take it anymore, so Idecided to ! confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep.I started crying and cried until I fell asleep.I do not know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else.
My life is a disaster.

HIS DIARY
Today India lost the cricket match again. DAMN IT.

Simple...Simpler....Simplest

School Life - Most of us could never forget these days where in we were like butterflies without any troubles in life. When we were kids we always used to think that we are the ones who have the most troubles in life like studying for exams, getting good marks, participating in a competition, winning prizes and the so.We always wanted to grow big soon now knowing what was waiting there for us.

I always believe that we not only learn text lessons but also life lessons in school. If you ask any school student which subject they like the most , they will say the subject whose teacher they like the most. One of my aunt who was a teacher used to tell me "I like being a school teacher because you get the hero/heroine worship there". Thats very true. If school kids are impressed by the teachers ,they like the subject they teach. How many teachers from your school days do yoou remember. I am sure you will remember the ones whom you liked.

Its a great responsibility for the teachers to make students like the subject. Studies should be always simple. When i was learning graphs in Maths in school days , they just taught me how to plot the graphs.I was confused and i used to think what is this plotting going to do in my life.Instead if they could have taught me with a practical example i know i would have understood it much better.

When i learnt Trigonometry i never had a clue what cosine , sine and tan angles will do for me in life. I never understood why i was studying them.Later in life you understand their practical meanings. But when you are learning them initially if you had been told what it is for, why it is for, where it is used and how it is used our perspective would have been different.

Lesson go well into your head when they come with simple practical examples. I really don't know if this is the case only with me or everyone. When a kid is learning maths instead of asking him to count 2+2 ask him what would you get when you add two more chocolates? He would learn it better. There is a way of learning everything. Understanding and learning will yield good results. The teachers should help the students to make them understand things better.

Some famous quotes by Einstein:

The wireless telegraph is not difficult to understand. The ordinary telegraph is like a very long cat. You pull the tail in New York, and it meows in Los Angeles. The wireless is the same, only without the cat.– Albert Einstein

You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother.– Albert Einstein

I tried to imagine the easiest way God could have done it.– Albert Einstein

"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity."

1)Pinku walks into a bar and orders 3 glasses of beer, drinks a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes, he comes back to the bar counter and orders three more glasses. The bartender asks him, “You know, beer goes flat after I fill it in the glass; it would taste better if you buy one at a time.”

Pinku replies, “Well, you see, I have two friends, Chinku and Minku. They both stay in different places… When we met, we promised that we’ ll drink this way to remember the moments when we drank together.”

Pinku becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders three beers and drinks them in turn. One day, Pinku comes in and orders only two beers. All the other regulars notice and fall silent.

When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, “I don’ t want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my sincere condolences on your great loss” Pinku looks confused for a moment. Then he laughs. “Oh, no,” he says, “Everything’ s fine. Both my friends are alive and kicking . The only thing is, I just quit drinking.”

Solitude

I was talking to my mom on the other day this topic came to my mind. I remember the poem Solitary Reaper by William Wordsworth which i learnt in my 8th std i think. The poem goes like this.

Behold her, single in the field,
Yon solitary Highland Lass!
Reaping and singing by herself;
Stop here, or gently pass!
Alone she cuts and binds the grain,
And sings a melancholy strain;
O listen! for the Vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.

I remember the days of our parents when they used to work, take care of us, manage to be in touch with relatives, go for vacation, do everything in life..I really don't know how they managed to do everything in life.Nowadays the kind of work we are in, we rarely find time to see each other in the family. And as most of the decent jobs are in cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai and the so, we live there like nomads. Its even worse for people who live in US.

Nowadays because of the software, today's youth has started earning more than what they should do before 22 years of age. Dads are so proud that they say "Your starting salary was the one i got when i retired". So they become independent and enjoy life as they wish. They do think about parents. But they can't find time inbetween their busy life.Their thought about parents ends with one phone call per day. I am also in the list.

My mom used to tell me almost everyday that she misses me and would like to see me.Now that i am at home , i feel lonely and have all the time in the world not knowing what to do. So i know how lonelisness can be painful and lead you to stress. My mom was also a working lady like me. She got her voluntary retirement long back. Now that both her children are not with her and she stays in the house with my dad , with all the time in the world and not knowing what to do, She waits for our calls everyday.Thats the only moment of the day she will be happy. And then 1 hour before and after that she thinks about the call. For cooking and other household chores she might need 2 hours. For talking to children one hour. Thinking abt it 2 hours. For sleeping to the max of 9 hours. She might watch TV for 3 hours.Still she is left out with 9 hours. I wanted to ask my mom what she would do in those hours. But i somehow feel afraid and guilty to ask that.

I was thinking about my granny who never lived with us tilll she died. The reason she says is " I feel like being tied up in a jail". My granny used to live in a village where people in the village whomsoever passes by the house stops by to ask how she is talks some sweet nothings. She had lot of friends there. Now i know why my granny never came and stayed with us. In my mother's case, there are no one to stop by like that .Loneliness is hell. And loneliness in old age is worse than hell.I used to tell my mom to come and stay with me.But she says she cannot be here with me after a certain time. She becomes restless after that.

She has to really wait for Diwali, Pongal, long weekends and something or the other reason for her kids to turn up. My mother used to tell me the story "Tresspassers are prohibited" when i go there. This is a difficult situation for both the children and the parents. These days i have started thinking what me and my husband are going to do when we become old.

Life is very unfair. Now that i have a kid i always admire him , love him , adore him etc etc. But i know this is going to be in one direction.I am not saying that my son will not love me.But when he grows up his focus will be more on his kids and family rather than me. Thats a bitter truth. When i realise this truth i am starting to appreciate my parents more. I start thinking how they would have loved me and adored me and what all they did for me.

Am going to call my mom.Catch u later ..Bye,....

Seven Year itch

The most sweet and wonderful part of life is during the time your marriage gets fixed until the initial years of marriage.(Don't ask me after inital years..hehehe). Me and my husband were talking to a mutual friend of ours and during the course of our talk i said " Smile always. You never know who will fall in love with your smile". The freind asked "So did you fall in love with your husband?" . I said "He used to smile a lot in the initial period of our togetherness. Now he smiles rarely.(Heheheh...i am not the reason for it)". My husband replied "We tend to smile more when we don't know the person much". Might be true. I remembered some jokes about husband and wife. The story goes like this....

1) One beautiful Sunday morning, people gathered in a local church. Suddenly at the altar, the Devil appeared! The worshipers began screaming and running for the front door, crushing each other in their efforts to escape the Devil.
Soon, everyone was evacuated from the church except for one man, who sat calmly in his place, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God’s ultimate enemy was in his presence. This confused the Devil. He walked up to the man and said, “HEY, DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?” THE MAN SAID, “YES, I SURE DO.” DEVIL SAID, “WELL AREN’T YOU AFRAID OF ME?” THE MAN SAID, “NO. I AM NOT.” DEVIL WAS CONFUSED AND ASKED, “AND WHY ARE YOU NOT AFRAID OF ME?” THE MAN SAID, “WELL, I’VE BEEN MARRIED TO YOUR SISTER FOR 30 YEARS!”

2) I told him that my wife is an angel. He looked me straight in the eye and said: “You’re lucky, mine’s still alive.”

There is something called Seven Year itch. That means that after seven years of marriage many couples grow bored with marriage.Things become so routine that the thrill is gone. The exciting and once beautiful spouse becomes the person that they don’t like, can't change and can't tolerate.

To keep your marriage working keep the fire burning.Well, how to keep the fire burning?

Here are some tips

1) Don't let the routine overshadow your relationship, means there should not be anything that is routine. Be creative and try to live life differently everyday

2) Birthdays, Anniversaries etc are not only the important days. Try to make 2 days important in every month.Buy gifts for your spouse. Gifts need not be costly. Even a pen would do. Gifts are a way to say " I REMEMBERED YOU".

3) You must send him or her flowers just for the sake of sending them to express your love.

4)You must be committed to love your spouse even when you don’t like them very much, because things might change as days go by.

5)Always think of the good memories you had together and don't forget to share them.

6)Respect the other individual.Let them be in their own personal space.

7)Discuss everything with your spouse. Don't hide things.

8)Both the partners should always know money matters. Have a financial plan and work together towards the goal.

9) Even a small act of love could bring a lot of difference.Atleast once everyday try to say one kind or compliment word.

10)Try to appreciate and encourage your spouse even when they achieve something small.

11)Always try to have some time alone with the spouse everyday.

12)Go on vacation once in a while

13)Always listen to what the other person has to say.

14)Respect your inlaws and love them as you love your family

15)Never ever thing you are too old to do anything. Enjoy life as if you are a kid.

16)Always keep telling yourself that you should not back up at any time.

17)Love changes everything.Love your spouse unconditionally with all his/her flaws.Accept them as they are. When they try to change for your sake keep appreciating them every now and then

18)Always add some romance to your life.If your partner is not that type you be it. Don't expect/nag that the other person is unromantic.

19) Always be frank with your spouse,.If you dont like something tell him/her. Talk about it during your good time together.

20)Find time to call your spouse atleast once during your work.

21)Its anyway 2 different individuals and you might have a lot of differences. But when you fight, try to finish it by the end of the day and have a good sleep.Don't let the fight disturb your sleep. It will keep accumulating hatred for the other person. Never go to sleep with an argument unsettled. As you know Men are from Mars and women are from Venus. They are two extremely diferent thinking individuals.Every couple fights in life. Don't ever think that you are the only one who is screwed up.Try to think of ways to overcome your fights.

22)Never ever have a communication gap between you and your spouse. If you feel you have a gap the reason might be you .Try to be considerate.

23)Never both be angry at the same time

24)Never yell at each other unless the house is on fire

25)If one of you has to win an argument let it be your spouse

26)If you have to criticize do it lovingly

27)Never bring mistakes of the past

29)When you are wrong admit it

30)Never allow ego inbetween you both. Be the first one to forgive. No egos allowed in a marriage.

31)It takes two to make a quarrel and the one whos wrong does most of the talking.

Well giving tips is always easy.Following them is the most difficult part. I am also trying hard to follow these tips.Hope i will succeed one day.

I remembered another joke when i was writing this article. Its really not a joke. It has a good truth of successful marriage.

A husband comes fully drunk to the house.while parking the car in the garage he damages it and upon entering the house breaks all the cutlery in the dining table, vomits and shouts at his wife. The next day when he woke up he sees that the house is neatly done, clothes ironed, hot water ready for him, good food cooked in the table and a note saying "I love you". He was confused. he asked his son "What happened yesterday". He said what all happened and finally said "When mama was dragging you to clean you , you said "Lady leave me alone.I am married".

STAY COMMITTED- whatever be it. Thats the magical word that keeps your relationship running.

Happy married life and good luck... :)

5) My Malgudi Days

By the very word Malgudi days everyone thinks about different things that has happened in their life. For me Malgudi days is my childhood memories.

There is always a general compliant about youngsters..

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

Do you know who told these lines and when was it said?
This was said by Socrates. When you read this you can find that this is applicable to today's youngsters also.

"What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions.Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?"
- Pluto
Here's another one:

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise[disrespectful] and impatient of restraint"
- Hesiod, 8th century BC

I would like to relate something like this in my life..
When we were kids(Me and my brother), we used to go to our paternal granny's place during vacation. My mother used to tell us that when we come back my parents had to take us to the hospital for fever, cold or something alike. Since my mother was also a working lady you can imagine how it would have been. So whenever we go to our granny's place my Dad used to be very careful. At this time i would like to remember our granny. She was such a nice lady.Loved us like anything. She is no more now. She used to go crazy when we go there. She used to take us out and buy us chocolates and other things from road side. I remember my dad and my granny fighting for this. My Dad used to say " Ma..Dont do this..When we go back we cant take leave and take the kids to hospital".But my Granny had her own ways. She used to reply "When the kids asks something i cannot refuse".

Today when i go to my parent's house with my kid my Dad does the same thing. Atleast he doesnt buy things from road side but still he buys eatables for my son saying "When he asks something i can't refuse". Some things never change. The fight still continues...... :)

4)Calvin & Hobbes

I started reading this 4 years back.Have become a great fan ever since.Hope you would also love it. Here is the intro of the characters in the comic series.

Calvin
******
Calvin is the main character in Calvin and Hobbes and feels, like we all do at 6 years old, that the world revolves around him. He is actually quite a smart kid, he just seems to be lacking some common sense sometimes. Because of this he is constantly getting into trouble and causing havoc. Calvin often blames Hobbes for his misbehaviour which results in him ending up in more trouble.

Hobbes
*******
Hobbes is Calvin's best and only friend. He is actually a stuffed toy but Calvin sees him as alive and well. He likes to pounce on Calvin and torment him with his (supposed) knowledge of everything but when it comes down to it, he loves Calvin as much as Calvin loves him.

Calvin's mom and dad
********************
Calvin's parents do an incredibly good job of bringing him up considering the things he gets up to. Despite this, they both often lose their temper with him but more often than not, they get the situation under control. They were childhood sweethearts and look like they'll be together for ever

Susie Derkins
************
Susie is Calvin's next door neighbour and absolutely adores Hobbes. She is incredibly smart but doesn't seem to have many friends, hoping one day to become Calvin's. Calvin always tries his hardest to get one over on Susie, though this is probably because he likes her.

Rosalyn
*******
Rosalyn is Calvin's babysitter. She is probably the only person Calvin is frightened of, and the only person that will babysit Calvin. Calvin's Mom and Dad are prepared to pay Rosalyn's prices once in a while, just to escape Calvin for a night. It is a surprise Rosalyn continues to babysit as every time she does Calvin seems to think up a plan to cause trouble for her.

Moe
****
Moe is the school bully and seems to always be on the lookout for Calvin to steal his lunch money or just to beat him up. Despite this Calvin doesn't actually seem to be afraid of Moe (despite constant beatings) and quite enjoys confusing and insulting him, which isn't hard.

Miss Wormwood
**************
Miss Wormwood is Calvin's teacher and is near to retirement. She is constantly stressed out by Calvin, she smokes a lot and seems to be on medication. Because of this you actually feel quite sorry for her.

Stupendous man
***************
One of Calvin's alter ego's, Stupendous Man came about from a costume Calvin's Mom made for him. Now, every time he put's it on he becomes a comic book super hero, though he tends to save himself from work rather than saving the world from danger.

Spaceman Spiff
*************
Another of Calvin's fantasy characters, Spaceman Spiff is an intergalactic hero and seems to help Calvin escape from reality the most by taking him as far from Earth as possible. He is usually found on an alien planet after being shot down by unknown forces, only to be confronted by horrible aliens.

Tracer Bullet
***********
Calvin's imagination also creates Tracer Bullet, a private investigator who drinks, smokes and carries a revolver. The Tracer Bullet comic strips are all done in black and white 'film noir' style.
